January 23, 2011

Dates for the spring XC series are Tuesdays, May 17, 24, 31, June 7.  Entry and information here.
Volunteers are needed every day.  Please share with friends who may wish to help.

How to volunteer -- email one of our fine race directors or series coordinator (yours truly).
Helping out at one or two is wonderful.  We also want you to race.

Specific dates:
may24race@princetonac.org Audrey Sederberg (course record holder)
may31race@princetonac.org Bridget Dalrymple

General / questions:

Or post to:

[ Some help still needed for Saturday, April 9 at Institute Woods:
iaswoods@princetonac.org  Audrey Sederberg / Lawren Smithline ]

CONFIRM by email or posting.
Thinking about volunteering is nice.  Talking to one of us is great.

It's just not possible to keep this all in memory, and the club does not have the mind reading tech, yet.

Most roles are approximately 6 to 8 PM: a few a little earlier, a few a little later.

If we snag you for the finish line crew or other role that prevents you from racing, we comp you to the cookout planned for June 7.  (We'll get the burgers and dogs.  BYO accompaniments and beverage, but no glass bottles, please. Park rules.)

If you've missed out your chance to be race director, future opportunities can be made.

Thanks.

January 10, 2011

We had a meeting on January 10 in the posh quarters of the Robeson Center.  It's a tough time of year for running, and a good time for planning.

We covered:

1 -- spring series dates: May 17, 24, 31, June 7.  We'll do a 5k and a youth mile.  Call for volunteers.
springrace@princetonac.org
2 -- runs to do together
3 -- ongoing group runs
4 -- Institute Woods race: Saturday, April 9.  Enter.  Some volunteers needed.
5 -- Finally, one or two of you haven't sent in your renewal.  See
princetonac.org

Next PAC business meeting is scheduled for Feb. 7, at Princeton Running Co., 7 PM.

FYI -- PU indoor meet (collegiate) Saturday, Jan 22, 4 - 10:30 PM.

-----

1 -- spring series dates: May 17, 24, 31, June 7.  We'll do a 5k and a youth mile.

The especially wonderful news: we have new people to be race directors.  Meg Black, Bridget Dalrymple,
Kate Moore, and Audrey Sederberg.  If you missed out, there will be future opportunities to be RD.  You can MAKE a future opportunity.

Flier is posted at
princetonac.org  Online entry is not open yet.  Permits pending.

*** Watch for call for volunteers shortly, but you don't have to wait.  Many roles.  Mostly show-ups.  Essential.
Say which dates you're available and how many you want to help at (one or two would be great -- we do not want burnt out heroes).

email
springrace@princetonac.org

2 -- runs to do together

Bridget wants a team for River to Sea.
veep@princetonac.org

Audrey would like to do a loop based at Nomad Pizza in Hopewell (no set date).

Cupid's Chase at Princeton Shopping Center on Sat. Feb 12.  Good place to promote PAC and our upcoming races.
Does someone want to organize a group for this?  No group discount this year, but maybe a convenient place to meet up.

3 -- ongoing group runs

YMCA Tuesday 6:45 meet / 7 AM depart, Thursday 6:45/7AM, Saturday 8/8:15AM.  Times posted at
princetonac.org
There will be an adjustment with the advance of daylight.

Princeton Running Co. Wednesday 6:15/6:30PM: on hold for return of daylight.

4 -- Institute Woods race: Saturday, April 9

Entry open: We have fewer than 70 places still available.  Must preregister for this race -- property owner's rules.
http://princetonac.org/PAC_Emporium.html#institute-woods-entry

Volunteers still needed.
Email Audrey at
iaswoods@princetonac.org

5 -- Finally, one or two of you haven't sent in your renewal.  See
princetonac.org

We've got it set up so that online (membership + woods race) is cheaper than mail-in (membership + woods race).  If you like, throw in a donation or revel in frugality.

November 15

We approved the date for a race in the Institute Woods: Saturday, April 9, 2011.
This race will be pre-entry ONLY.  No registration on site.  That's IAS rules.
We will also invite surrounding property owners to show off our responsible organization.

Audrey Sederberg will be the volunteer coordinator for this event.  We'll need eight non-running volunteers.  We'd like four signed up before we open entries.  Contact: iaswoods@princetonac.org

Septemer 13

Business meeting.  Future dates are October 18 and November 15.
Also, we will have an organizational meeting in mid-Janurary, exact date and location TBA

Nolan would like to do some winter events and some youth events.
Lawren would like the spring series to happen again.  That would be a place to add some youth events.

David K. presented his findings on doinga road race in Princeton.

Lawren is coordinating a team for the Shore A. C. XC seres in October.

The mysterious RD measures and marks

April 12 meeting

We discussed possibilities for a summer event.
Key point: settle on venue and major aspects so
we can get an entry form ready to distribute at our
spring races.

We approved a regular Wednesday evening run.
See schedule of events

Meeting point: Princeton Running Company,
108 Nassau Street, in Princeton.

Meet at 6:15 pm, out the door at 6:30 pm.

We need a run leader and a run follower (about 11 min. pace) for each run.

Bureaucracy.  First timers should sign a waiver.  A sample was circulated at
the meeting and will shortly be posted.

Everyone should sign in the log book.  Mike suggested signing in with an estimated
pace.  This will help organize pace groups.

Our course will be from 108 Nassau to the D&R canal at Harrison, toward Washington.

Return via Washington to make 3.2 miles.

Continue on canal and return on Alexander to make 4.5 miles.

Dogleg out and back further on canal to go further.
Longer distances are still a work in progress, and
we will probably adjust the course seasonally.

March 8 meeting

We approved the race series as described on the entry form.
It's time to go out and promote the race.  As a goal, we would
like to see each member bring in two entries in March.

We discussed the fine art of finish line management.

Race -- Cupid's Chase 5k, February 13

Thanks to Megan for coordinating the group entry.

Nolan McCarty sends the following report.

On a cold and blustery day, the 10 Princeton Athletic Club members joined about 500 other runners for its debut race at the Cupid Chase 5k in Princeton. Despite the hilly, icy course, the PAC had a breakout performance including top 10 finishes by Marty Suresh and Lee Sandburg. The PAC made its mark in the age-group races clocking in the top three repeatedly.

Thanks to everyone who came out with a special shout out to Sky who filled in as team photographer.

Last Meeting -- Feb 8

We approved the bylaws and other organizing policies.
Officers are Lawren (pres), Sky (vp), Megan (treasurer).

Nolan agreed to be secretary and Louise our race director.
That will be made official in March.  We promise, Louise,
it will be a team effort.

Ginny and Laura will take over maintaining membership forms
and current member list.

Shortly after the meeting, Megan and Lawren got a bank account for Princeton A. C.
So now people can write checks to "Princeton Athletic Club of Princeton, New Jersey, Inc."
or just "P A C".

Jersey Order

We still have 9 jerseys folks have yet to pick up...

Corporate Charter

Our legal name is "Princeton Athletic Club of Princeton, New Jersey Inc."

Race Organizing

We contacted some area race directors for basic guidance on race production budget.
We are looking at a race or series of races with distance between 5k and 10k, off road on friendly trails.

Rosedale Park and Washington Crossing State Park are possible locations.  There is also a chance of a venue in the town of Princeton... working on it.

Group Runs

Monday 6 PM -- Princeton Running Company

About a half hour easy run.

Thursday 6 PM -- Princeton Running Company.
All runners are welcome.  Show up at by 6 and introduce yourself if you are new.

Groups seem to depart at 6 sharp (about 5 miles, 10 min/mile pace),

6:20 (6 to 8 miles, 8:30 min/mile pace)
